Progress in Halifax
We’re proud to share the success of our work in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Over the past year, our efforts resulted in the net removal of 138 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere, which is roughly the amount of carbon 5,750 mature trees can absorb in one year. (A mature tree can absorb, on average, 48 pounds of carbon in one year!) Our project is now running 24/7, demonstrating the potential for continuous, scalable impact. (Read more about our Halifax project here). Our success in Halifax demonstrates the potential for impactful, scalable solutions—an approach we’re eager to bring to Norfolk.
A New Chapter in Virginia
Last fall, we took an initial step in Virginia with a one-week field trial of OAE on-site at the Hampton Roads Sanitation District Virginia Initiative Wastewater Treatment Plant on the Elizabeth River. Thanks to a partnership with the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Sciences and HRSD, funded by a grant from NOAA, we have been working in lockstep with the scientists at UMCES and the operators at HRSD to perform this trial, which provided valuable insights and marked the beginning of our work in the Norfolk community.
Looking ahead, we’re gearing up for our next field trial this spring, with plans to expand and refine our approach. We’re committed to working closely with local communities, environmental groups, scientists, and regulators to ensure our efforts align with Norfolk’s environmental and economic priorities.
