The traditional hiring process doesn’t look or feel anything like the experience of working at a company. If we want to build the best possible team, I think we need to change that.

Usually, candidates are asked to send a cover letter and a resume to apply for a job and then have to go through a rigorous interview process. At the end of it all, if they’re successful, they need to make their decision to join based on things like the company website, or what they’ve gleaned through the process in the few moments they get to ask questions or the compensation package.

But the most important factors for job satisfaction are culture and senior leadership. So shouldn’t the senior leadership – and in particular the CEO – give the same courtesy back to the candidate? Shouldn’t the CEO offer the same level of scrutiny to the candidate?

To that end, here’s my cover letter and formal application as you consider applying for a role at Planetary.
